SAG Awards Best Dressed

So it was a big triumph for The Help which won three awards, including the biggest of the night - Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Motion Picture (which is seen as the SAG equivalent of the Best Picture Oscar). Modern Family also won a cast award which was very well deserved!

On the fashion side of things I was rather disappointed! There were very few dresses that really wowed me and some didn't live up to expectations i.e Lea Michele. Despite this, here are some of my favourites . . .

Overall Best Dressed - Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen

Black can be a safe colour choice for the red carpet but the interesting length and lace bustier of this dress make it beautiful and dramatic, especially against her fair skin! I also love how the bag doubles up as a ring!

Best Hair - Amber Heard

A very different and slightly daring hair style for a red carpet event. It reminds of how my close friend Fay often wears her hair so I love it!

Best Make Up - Dianna Agron

Onscreen her make up looked so pretty! Her soft glitter eye shadow and pink lips which really complimented her fuchsia dress.

Others which deserve a mention are Viola Davis in Marchesa, Michelle Williams in Valentino and Natalie Portman in Giambattista Valli (whose dress was just off the runway having been shown just last week at the Couture collection in Paris!).

SAG Awards

Its the Screen Actors Guild Awards in LA tonight and I will, once again, be on 'Frock Watch' while watching E! Live on the Red Carpet. Like my previous Golden Globes post, Award Season Begins I have chosen some of my favourite red carpet looks from past SAG awards . . .

For two years in a row Lea Michele (for me) has been Best Dressed at the SAG awards wearing an emerald green Catherine Maladrino gown in 2010 and a beaded Oscar de la Renta in 2011. Both looks are styled perfectly, from her hair to her simple bangle bracelets. Can she make it on the Best Dressed list three years running . . .

This stunning red carpet look epitomizes why Diane Kruger is one of my style icons. She wore this marigold, one shoulder Jason Wu dress to the 2010 ceremony paired with ruby and diamond earrings and bright red lips. The dress does strike a resemblance to the Vera Wang dress Michelle Williams wore to the 2006 Oscars.

In 2011 Rosario Dawson wore a lemon coloured J. Mendel dress with metallic Christian Louboutin heels. The bright green earrings and lemon dress look great paired together and her wavy, side swept hair completes this soft, pretty look.

The SAG Awards are the only televised ceremony that exclusively honour performers in film and television. They focus on individual performances and ensemble casts, with awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Motion Picture, Drama Series and Comedy Series. As with the Golden Globes, I'm hoping The Help and Modern Family end up winning in they're nominated categories. Its another step film-wise as to who could be walking away with an Oscar in March . . .

One Sketch a Day . . .

A yearlong record of sketches - because every daily drawing is worthy of remembrance.

Whilst browsing through blogs last week I came across a post about a journal called 'One Line a Day' where you write one line a day for 5 years! I loved this idea and decided to search Amazon to buy one for myself. Instead I ended up buying 'One Sketch a Day', a visual journal where you do exactly what its called, draw a sketch a day for one year. I liked this idea even more as recently I've been wanting to get back into drawing again and as my mum said in regards to the 'One Line a Day' do you really want to be reminded of your thoughts 5 years ago?

The hard back journal is navy blue with the pages edged in orange along with the font on the cover. After the year is up I could maybe think about combining all the sketches somehow...

I took a trip to my nearest Primark (which is quite small with not much choice) and found this gorgeous scarf for £4! I really like the colours and it looks a lot more expensive than its price! I'm very much a scarf person so this is a lovely addition to my collection. I also bought a dress (£10 down from £17) which looks much better on than it does on the hanger. I may put it in an outfit post sometime soon . . .

Other purchases were some No7 nail varnish in Milan (a silver and pink glitter) and some Candied Ginger Body Butter from The Body Shop for £3 down from £12!! It was part of their Christmas range which is now in the sale! Sadly I couldn't find any Candied Ginger shower gel. . . I was planning on buying more as both me and my mum love it and have almost used it up!

I was also given a tester for the new Chocomania Body Butter which is released next week! I have yet to try it but with my love for chocolate and body butter I know I'll love this exciting combination!

V&A Hollywood Costume

When a character and a film capture the public’s imagination; the costumes can ignite worldwide fashion trends and influence global culture. Cinematic icons are born when the audience falls deeply in love with the people in the story. And that’s what movies, and costume design, is all about.

Deborah Nadoolman Landis
Senior Guest Curator, Hollywood Costume

This autumn cinemas most unforgettable costumes will be on public display at the V&A Museum. The Hollywood Costume exhibition is sponsored by jewellery label Harry Winston and will include over 100 of the most famous and iconic costumes from Hollywood films between 1912–2012. Never before has an exhibition given so much insight into the pivotal role costume design plays in bringing characters to life in film! Costumes to be featured include Kate Winslet in Titanic, Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz, Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Carribean and Brad Pitt in Fight Club. According to the V&A website, many of the costumes have never left their archival storage and this exhibition will be the first time they will be publicly displayed!

Audrey Hepburn's Hubert de Givenchy dress in Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) will be featured in the exhibition.
The Hollywood Costume exhibition combines two of my greatest passions in life; film and fashion, so I know it will definitely not disappoint! I am planning on applying for an MA in Fashion and Film at the London College of Fashion this year so by the time this exhibition begins it could be very helpful for my studies (if I get on the course and can find money to fund it that is!).

The exhibition begins on 20th October so there's still a long time to wait but its something very exciting to look forward to!

Birthday Planning. . .

I love planning outfits! Its probably one of my favourite things to do and planning for a special occasion is even more exciting! My birthday is just under a month away and my outfit is almost sorted!

Cute little package from Love
The dress is from Love  and whilst browsing on the website a couple of weeks ago it immediately caught my attention. I had been looking for a dress with long sleeves and slightly drapey and this ticks both boxes! The colour (called Petrol on the website) is so beautiful and the material is very soft! Along with front and back views of the dress there were also other photos in the gallery of bloggers and celebrities wearing it which gave me an idea of what it really looked like on and ideas on how to style it.

My Amazing gold glittery heels from BooHoo are actually a birthday present from my friend Sophie. She had them delivered to me so I could see if they fit/went well with the dress so I will be giving them back for her to wrap. They are VERY high but so incredible! The heels I wore for my graduation were the same height and I wore those all day without falling over once so I should be fine in these.

The belt is from Topshop with two gold panthers, one at either end, kindly lent to me by my friend at work. I got the earrings today from accessorize and they have a cluster of tiny gold leaves at the bottom of each gold strand.

I have a black bag with a gold fastening which I might use or I'm thinking of throwing another colour into the mix and buying a dark purple clutch....

Golden Globes Best Dressed!

While watching E! Live on the Red Carpet last night I was on major frock watch and this years Golden Globe Awards did not disappoint when it came to fashion! Here's the low down on some of my favourite looks...

Overall Best Dressed - Charlize Theron wearing Christian Dior

Powdery blush gown. Soft, romantic side bun. Beautiful diamond headband. Simple, elegant make up. Nothing can fault this look. Absolutely stunning.

Best Hair - Reece Witherspoon

Beachy 'bed' hair. I want to try this big wavy look for my birthday celebrations next month.

Best Make Up - Jessica Alba

Strikingly pretty and flawless. Love how her lip shade matches her dress.

& not forgetting...

Best Dressed Man - Leonardo DiCaprio in Giorgio Armani

Because I just love him.

Other looks I loved were Evan Rachel Wood in Gucci, Lea Michele in Marchesa and Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) in Vera Wang.

The absolute star of the night had to be the dog from The Artist! Yes, there was a real dog on the red carpet! The Artist also picked up three of the six awards it was nominated for including Best Picture - Musical or Comedy. I'm seeing this film Wednesday and am sure it will live up to all its hype! I was also very happy that Modern Family won Best Television Comedy Series! A very well deserved win!

Awards Season Begins!

The Golden Globes kick off the awards season tonight and the winners in the film categories will be a big indication of what to expect when the Academy Award nominations are announced! The French silent film The Artist is expected to win many/all of its six nominations which include Best Picture and Best Actor (both in the Musical or Comedy category). I'm hoping that my favourite film of 2011, The Help will end up winning too. I loved the book and the film is just as good.

As for television I'm hoping that either Modern Family or New Girl will win Best Television Series Comedy. There have only been two episodes of New Girl here in the UK and already I love it! Modern Family is an absolute favourite of mine and has won many awards at the Emmys in previous years but never at the Globes. Hopefully that'll change this year!

Ricky Gervais is presenting for the third year running and will, as always, be hilarious! It'll be interesting to see what kind of 'controversy' he causes this year and who is going to experience the brunt of his jokes!

I'll be on Frock Watch tonight while watching E! live from the red carpet. Seeing the beautiful creations the actresses are wearing is always exciting! I've included three of my favourite Golden Globe looks from the past few years below!

Emma Stone (2011) wearing Calvin Klein Collection

Sienna Miller (2007) wearing Marchesa

Reece Witherspoon (2007) wearing Nina Ricci and Brian Atwood heels.

People's Choice Best Dressed: Miley Cyrus

Now I'm not a fan of Miley Cyrus as an actress/singer/celebrity in general but when it comes to fashion choices she can sometimes pull it out of the bag! She looked stunning at The People's Choice Awards in LA last night and, in my opinion, was definitely the best dressed!

She wore a David Koma dress (which according to articles online is a pale lemon colour although it looks white in the photo) with neon gem embellishments, Jimmy Choo heels and a Marchesa clutch. It was a refreshing look for her and very age appropriate. I also love her side swept hairstyle! It looks relaxed and understated without taking attention away from the rest of the ensemble. I'm really looking forward to seeing what she'll wear to her next event!

My Figs and Rouge win!

After having a stressful morning at work I received a tweet from one of my favourite style blogs The Raspberry Branch to say I had won the Figs and Rouge giveaway! This news really did make my day as I was really hoping to win the two Figs and Rouge multipurpose balms after reading such a good review of them on the blog last month. I can't wait to try them out for myself!

Walk by the sea. . .

Last week, I went out for a coffee in Broadstairs with my mum and we decided to walk home along the seafront as it was such a lovely bright day! I really like this photo she took of me, mainly because I'm wearing two of my favourite items in my wardrobe. I bought my trench coat from Topshop almost a year ago and I really am in love with it! Its a great fit, gorgeous colour and when I wear it I immediately feel more dressed up. My new bag (also Topshop) is the perfect size for everyday use, has a detachable shoulder strap and fits so much in! I've used it constantly since recieving it Christmas Day and am thinking of getting another in a different colour...

The search for my Birthday dress . . .

It my 22nd Birthday on 18th February and I am already so excited! I'm going to be staying in London with a group of my closest friends, some from uni and some from home and going out that night to celebrate! I literally cannot wait and have already started looking for a dress to wear!

I bought this dress from the River Island sale for £15 down from £35. Its very pretty and I love the billowy sleeves and gold leaf print design! I would need to shorten it as the length is slightly odd and find a gold belt instead of using the tie to go with it, I think a belt would look much nicer!

I'm just not sure whether it would be dressy enough to wear out in London so I'm going to continue looking as I've still got plenty of time! I spotted a playsuit in Miss Selfridge which I really like in a red wine colour which is another potential! Its just I have so many playsuits already it would be nice to buy a new dress instead!

Major Style Crush

Whilst flicking through Heat magazine today I came across Kate Bosworth in the style and fashion pages looking beautiful wearing head to toe Mulberry. I've admired her style for such a long time and this look, like so many hers before, I fell in love with. The gem embellished shoes, the gorgeous nettle green colour of the dress and the cute Harriet clutch with a gold chain strap...I want it all! I especially love the drawstring ribbon detail on the dress.

The more I see photos of her the more I want her wardrobe! And the more I look at this photo in particular the more I want something Mulberry!

My Beautiful Boudoir

Day number two of 2012 and I decided it was finally time to sort my bedroom out! Since moving back home from uni (last June!!) I hadn't got around to making my room the beautfiul place it once was so seeing as its a new year it had to be seen to! A large canvas of the New York skyline needs to be hung up and the draw under my bed cleared out to make space for my bag collection and then the room will be done!

Whilst unpacking a box at I hadn't touched since June 2011 (I put it off for way too long) I found lots of cute bits and pieces I had collected over my three years at uni and used in my bedrooms in halls and student houses.

The first thing I dug out of the box was the string of pink feathered butterflies which I decided to hang next to my window. They're very delicate and I'm so glad they didn't get crushed in the move! The curtain is tied with white ribbon with a large sheer fabric butterfly clipped over the knot. Both of these and the wire heart notice holder (which is looking a bit bare of photos etc) are from a shop called Arrowsmiths in Broadstairs which I LOVE. I could spend all day looking at the beautiful things they sell in there!

Onto my dressing table, which at one point was my grandmothers, then my mums and now its mine! I'll post a full picture of it soon. I have a lot of jewellery and even two jewellery stands isn't enough to hold it all! The one to the left of this photo is actually a mug stand I got in a charity shop in Falmouth for 50p! When I started uni I wanted a jewellery stand for my new room and remembered a friend of a friend once telling me they used mug stands. I thought it was a brilliant idea and still use it now even though I've since got a pretty pink heart shaped one!

I bought two huge teacups about four years ago and took them to uni, only to find they were way too big to make tea or coffee in! Last year I decided to put them to good use instead of leaving them to collect dust, so I now use one to store my hair accessories in, making it a cute and unusual addition to my dressing table!

To be continued . . .
